Over four days, the fourth edition of IPM brought together a qualified audience from all regions of Brazil and reached more than 18,000 people on social media.
São Paulo, November 2024 – In partnership with the Brazilian Export and Investment Promotion Agency (ApexBrasil), the Pet Brazil Institute (Instituto Pet Brasil – IPB) concluded the fourth edition of the International Pet Meeting, held from November 5 to 8, 2024. Once again, the event was 100% online and free, attracting professionals and enthusiasts from the pet industry.
Throughout the four days, IPM gathered entrepreneurs, experts, and public sector representatives to foster the internationalization and development of Brazil’s pet market. This thriving sector is projected to generate revenues of R$77 billion in 2024, reflecting a 12.1% increase compared to the previous year, according to data from IPB in collaboration with Abinpet – the Brazilian Association of Pet Products Industries.
The event’s agenda covered essential topics such as market research and exporting strategies, offering valuable insights for businesses of all sizes. ApexBrasil, a key partner, delivered sessions like the presentation of PEIEX – the Export Qualification Program.
“The goal is to equip companies with knowledge that enables them to seize business opportunities. Our role is to prepare businesses with tools like this platform and the Brasil Exportação initiative,” explained Rita Albuquerque, Competitiveness Coordinator at ApexBrasil.
Other key topics discussed included “The Potential of the North and Northeast Regions for Pet Sector Exports,” “The Role of Women in Business Leadership,” and “Cross-Border Exports,” with a focus on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
The crucial role of SMEs
Small and medium-sized enterprises play a vital role in the pet sector and have significant export potential. For example, small and medium-sized pet shops remain the driving force of pet retail, with projected revenues of R$37.5 billion by the end of 2024. Veterinary clinics and hospitals rank second, accounting for approximately 18% of the sector’s revenue (R$13.8 billion), followed by large pet store chains, which generate 9.4% of the total (R$7.2 billion). In e-commerce, specialized retailers dominate online sales, representing 40.6% of revenue, or R$2.4 billion.
“This fourth edition of the event focused on delivering relevant insights to both domestic and international markets, addressing critical topics, and highlighting the contributions of SMEs and women’s leadership in the industry,” said Caio Villela, Executive President of the Pet Brazil Institute.
Practical insights on exporting
The event featured experienced speakers who shared their hands-on expertise in the pet sector.
